In this special type of grain figure, the logs are quarter cut to produce very straight grains with cross figure. The figures are of two intensities:
Molted: A wavy spiral grain; Sapeli and Bubinga are usually mottled.
Fiddleback: A high density perpendicular figure, running from edge to edge uninterruptedly. Maple, Macore, Angire and Sycamore are the prominent fiddleback-prone species.
